The Cousins- Blog Tour!

Happy November!!

I hope you are well and safe! I am super excited for todays Blog post! Today is the most exciting post as today is my spot on the blog tour organised by the amazing Dave from @The_WriteReads for The Cousins by Karen M. McManus. As always I have to Thank Dave for letting me getting involved and all round just being the best person in the world.

I am super excited to be a part of this Blog Tour as I have loved all of Karen M. McManus’ other books and was super excited to get involved with reading The Cousins. In fact, I’m pretty sure I screamed when Dave announced this blog tour.

Again I just want to give a massive thank you to Dave, Karen and the team at Penguin for letting me be part of this tour, and for providing me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Receiving the book in the mail was all kinds of magical. This being said despite being gifted a copy of the book all opinions are honest and my own.

Title: The Cousins

The Storys are the envy of their neighbours: owners of the largest property on their East Coast island, they are rich, beautiful, and close. Until it all falls apart. The four children are suddenly dropped by their mother with a single sentence:

You know what you did.

They never hear from her again.

Years later, when 18-year-old cousins Aubrey, Milly and Jonah Story receive a mysterious invitation to spend the summer at their grandmother’s resort, they have no choice but to follow their curiosity and meet the woman who’s been such an enigma their entire lives.

This entire family is built on secrets, right? It’s the Story legacy.

This summer, the teenagers are determined to discover the truth at the heart of their family. But some secrets are better left alone.

*Spoiler Alert- I Loved it!*

Any one who knows me well will know this book is right up my street. It is a YA mystery which means despite the fact I knew when Dave announced this tour I would want to participate in it because of the author, I was also hooked on the genre. However this book is full of secrets and so much to find out. When I first started reading it someone had said that it gave off The Breakfast Club vibes. Now again should you know me well you would know that The Breakfast Club is my all time favourite movie. So obviously I was intrigued to see how, and in all honesty I could not have said it better myself.

In this novel we meet the Story family, (side note: I love the name of this family.) They are a rich family who are veery influential however up until the point of being invited to the island where their grandmother lives for the summer the children of Mildred Story had been disinherited and therefore not met their grandmother. As you can imagine there is a lot for them to find out.

One of the main things I loved about The Cousins is the characters, I found them all very interesting and was hooked by the differences between them. I feel like out of all the characters Aubrey was my favourite, I was a huge fan of her relationship with Milly.

Although this is a YA mystery… We need to be clear it is not a murder mystery however it is jam packed full of secrets and questions that need to be answered. Like the title suggests that The Cousins have to figure it all out and I was gripped from the beginning. This being said the ending still caught me by surprise and therefore it is one of my favourite YA mysteries I have read in a long time.

In all honesty, I do not want to talk to much about this book as I know how easy it is to give spoilers and this is one book I feel you just have to read so we are going for no spoilers here!

I have given this four and a half stars because it reminded me of some of my favourite books and films but it was so different and I loved how despite how well the story is told the end is still one that catches you off guard! It is one I will be recommending to people!

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

Is this a book you would read? Let me know in the comments!

I would just like to thank Dave, Karen and of course Penguin for having me involved in this tour! You are all so amazing!

Love Always,

Gee xoxo
