IWD- Women who inspire me

Happy March!

I hope you are having a lovely year so far. Today is International Women’s Day, I am so lucky to have a life full of inspirational women. Not only within my close nit family and friends but also with the people around me. So many of my idols are women. Not only that but I am incredibly lucky to work for an amazing company who constantly are working to make sure we are creating a supportive environment and aim to #Breakthebias #IWD

International Women’s Day:

What is International Women’s Day:

International Women’s Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.

#IWD has occurred for well over a century, with the first IWD gathering in 1911 supported by over a million people. Today, IWD belongs to all groups collectively everywhere. IWD is not country, group or organization specific.” (2022)

How to get involved:

This years theme is #breakthebias.

On the official #IWD International Women’s Day website there is so many resources to get involved. Not only that but they are working alongside Linkedin to make sure we are educating ourselves on a wide range of relevant subject.

Wear Purple… the colour purple is the official colour of IWD. Why not show your support and throw on some purple.

Women who inspire me:

My Sister:

I am lucky enough to have a large family. I have four sisters and in their own ways they have a massive impact on my life. Each and everyone one of them inspire me and are kick ass women. However one of my sisters deserves a little note today, not only is she an incredible mum, she is one of the most inspiring people I have ever met. She has been through a lot the last few years and I could not be more proud of her.

My Best Friends:

Not being dramatic but I have some of the most incredible women as my best friends. Nothing quite inspires me like seeing my girls kick butt. I am lucky to call some of the best women my best friends. There is always laughter and support available when I have my girls.

My Drama Teacher:

Now to be clear, realistically this woman deserves a whole post of her own, but whenever anyone asks for who inspires me she comes up every time. My entire secondary school life, she was my rock. She pushed me to do my best and encouraged me to reach for my dreams. You wonder where my love for the theatre comes from. It comes from this woman. I left school in 2014 and still to this day I speak to her and I could not be more grateful for her unconditional support.

Women who inspire me (Celebrities/Public figures):

I could go on and on about female celebrities and public figures who inspire me. From female authors, to actors, to female public figures. I thought I would create a list of some of my favourite. Now I want to make this incredibly clear this list could have gone on forever and I did not think you would want to read that… so this is only a few/

Mary Shelley:

Listen she was a female writing the most incredible gothic novels well before her time. As someone who adores literature and gothic novels, we knew she would be in there somewhere. Talk about a kick ass woman. She is also responsible for one of my all time favourite novels. There was no chance of her not being included.

Now realistically this is again no surprise to anyone. This woman embodies the definition of kick ass woman. Not only is she an incredible performer, but she is raising her daughter to fight the norms and love herself for who she is. Whether it meets social constructs or not.

Virginia Woolf:

Known for writing some of the most incredible feminist literature, whether she wanted it to be shown as that or not is pretty bad ass. Again she has written one of the books that I can say I have read almost 6 times since purchasing it she deserved a spot.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg

As someone who has a keen interest in law and justice amongst other things, the round up of some of the women who inspire me would be incomplete without her. She was the co-founder of the Women’s Rights Project at the American Civil Liberties Union. She fought for so many incredible causes that not honouring her would be an utter tragedy.

Michelle Obama:

After reading Becoming her book, there was no question that she would join my list. She is an advocate for young girls and their education. It’s hard not to include her as an inspiration when she is so driven by making education at all levels accessible.

Who inspire you?

Love Always,

Gee xoxo
